			<description>
Red Alert 3 is a real time strategy game developed by EA Los Angeles and published by Electronic Arts. The game takes place in a parallel universe in which World War II never happened. Just like the all the past Command and Conquer RTS games, RA3 still retains all the core mechanics of what a Red Alert game should be like. You still get harvesters, power plants, tech trees, and of course your super weapons.

You begin as a tiny mote and your primary objective is to grow by absorbing smaller or similar (in size) motes. As a mote, you move around by propelling matter behind you. You need to watch it though as each matter that you eject from your body makes you smaller. In other words, this game needs you to use your brain something games nowadays lack.

			<link>http://joinpgn.com/20091018206/contents/articles/enable-the-l4d-in-game-server-browser/</link>
			<description>
When L4D was released back in November of 2008, a lot of PC users were looking for the in-game browser. It turns out that L4D did not have the in-game browser enabled by default unlike other games by Valve that has multi-player e.g. Team Fortress 2. This turned out to be a huge burden for people that have their own servers because well, let's put it this way...they want to play on their 'own' server. And with L4D's matchmaking system it's either a hit or miss. So what do we do then? Simple. Enable it.

			<description>

Secret Maryo Chronicles (http://www.secretmaryo.org/) is an open-source two dimensional platform game. The first beta release (version 0.27) was back in January 2003 under the name Super Mario Clone FX which looked very similar to the original Super Mario game. The name of the game was changed to Super Maryo Chronicles upon the release of version 0.95 along with several sprite/sound changes to avoid legal problems with the original Super Mario game. Up to this point some people still think that the game has some possible trademark infringement but we're not here to talk about that. We're here to play the latest version of Super Maryo Chronicles (SMC), version 1.9 which features a new type of enemies, sprites, and some editor updates.

			<description>
Half-Life 2 has been around for more than 5 years now and there's already been a ton of HL2 single-player (SP) and multi-player (MP) mods. Some never make it pass the designing stage while some never really took off. That didn't stop fitzroy_doll from making CSS Sci-Fi 3: Hardwired (http://www.amphibian.myzen.co.uk/css_sci_fi/), a single-player mod for HL2 that combines both HL2 and CSS at the same time. Combining two awesome games into one mod is a very daunting task and usually the expectations are high. Let's check out this new single-player mod for HL2 by fitzroy_doll.

			<description>
There's been tons of unannounced updates that have been going on in our community servers i.e. updating the blacklist. So I'd like to take this time to announce a couple of things which I think is very important for the community to know.

			<title>XFactor Gaming Servers Becomes A PGN Sponsor</title>
			<link>http://joinpgn.com/20090727188/news/pgn-latest-news/xfactor-gaming-servers-becomes-a-pgn-sponsor/</link>
			<description>
PGN is proud to announce XFactor Gaming Servers (http://www.xfactorservers.com/) as a server sponsor for PGN. Everyone probably knows by now that the partnership with Branzone has ended (in good terms) a couple of months ago and I have to relocate all the game servers to my dedicated servers in California. Many players have asked me if I'm trying to find another sponsor for PGN and I often tell them that as soon as I have the time, I'll go send out letters to companies. [PGN]DIEZ3L (view-user-profile/?user=153) (Sarath) was kind enough to donate his time and volunteer into finding a sponsor for PGN...joining forums and sending mails to game server companies. So please don't forget to thank him for this partnership between PGN and XFactor Gaming Servers as he did most of the work.

			<title>Unexpected Downtime</title>
			<link>http://joinpgn.com/20090723187/news/pgn-latest-news/unexpected-downtime/</link>
			<description>
Yesterday the main dedicated server went down, since it is hosting the web and database servers our online presence went down for at least a day. The reason for the downtime was really simple and something that I've overlooked a long time ago when I upgraded the CPU to a quad core - I forgot to replace the heatsink with a quad-core compatible heatsink, so just imagine a dual-core heatsink trying to cool down a quad-core CPU...you get the idea.

			<title>HLDS Update And How It Affects PGN</title>
			<link>http://joinpgn.com/20090716186/news/pgn-latest-news/hlds-update-and-how-it-affects-pgn/</link>
			<description>
There has been a Valve update (http://store.steampowered.com/news/2661/) today for CS 1.6 and CZ and it has a great effect on how our game servers run. The update today fixes the work around with the connect command. We use the connect command to redirect our players if the server is full to another server and without that some servers will stay full all the time instead of distributing the players in all our servers.

			<title>Vista Wireless Lag Spike Fix</title>
			<link>http://joinpgn.com/20090628184/contents/articles/vista-wireless-lag-spike-fix/</link>
			<description>

Ever since I've changed my wireless adapter, I've been having this lag spikes when playing games. At first I thought it was just my cable company doing some maintenance work but the more I play the, more I see a pattern. It's not just random lag spikes, it feels like every minute or so I get one. This tutorial will help you fix the 60 +/- second lag spikes that you get in Microsoft Vista.

The game server cs16.classic.ca.joinpgn.com:27000 is back up and running now. There are however some changes that admins will be able to notice immediately. I've also changed the naming convention on the servers and this time instead of a fancy name, I'll just put the exact hostname/ip and port that you need in order to connect to that server.

			<title>Unexpected Game Servers Downtime</title>
			<link>http://joinpgn.com/20090617176/news/pgn-latest-news/unexpected-game-servers-downtime/</link>
			<description>
The dedicated server hosting the majority of the game servers that we host had a Kernel Panic, it is the equivalent of a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) in a Windows machine. This time it wasn't recoverable and the dedicated server needed a reformat and a clean install of the operating system. So expect a long downtime for all the game servers this dedicated server was hosting. Sorry for the inconvenience.

On June 12, 1999 a new mod by Minh Gooseman Le and Jess Cliffe Cliffe for the popular game Half-Life was released. The mod pits Counter-Terrorists and Terrorists against each other in a variety of environments. CT's (Counter-Terrorists) will have to rescue hostages, defuse a bomb planted by the terrorists or escort a VIP to the extraction zone and as for the T's (Terrorists)...well they just have to be themselves and be the bad guys. Today will be Counter-Strike's 10th birthday, let us all wish our favorite game a happy birthday!

			<title>On Going JoinPGN.com SEO</title>

This has going on for the past few weeks now and you might have noticed that JoinPGN.com is sometimes down for some SEO maintenance. Although this is mostly back-end stuff (meaning users don't actually see the changes being made), it is very important for a website to be optimized for search engines and that's what I've been doing ever since JoinPGN.com went live. This search engine optimizations has gotten us Google Sitelinks (http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en answer=47334) and has helped us with getting more than 250+ new users per month. Which is why I'm asking you guys to help me out by browsing all of PGN's links or try out any of our website's features i.e. change your avatar whenever you have some free time.

unless it doesn't work well with the current plug-ins that we're using
such as AMX Mod X, AMX Bans, et. al. If it does not work, we'll revert
back to the last succesful stable update.

Since the Branzone game servers connect to the main dedicated server to access most of the databases in PGN, they were all timing out and crashing. ETA was unknown on Centauri Communications' side and I was only able to get the servers back up on 3:42PM MT.

			<description>
As I focus more on the back-end issues in PGN, I am having less and less time to focus on the front-end issues in PGN, thus most of the front-end issues are being left unchecked and uncontested from quite some time now. As you can see from the past, I am slowly transferring most of my front-end administrative levels to the head game server administrators (ie Being able to resolve most of the ban disputes by themselves without my intervention). And now I have once again transferred one of my front-end administrative levels to the head game server administrators, this time it will have an effect on how game server administrators are evaluated.

All of the CS 1.6 game servers now have a new type of command which lets all the players ask for a map vote after a specific time frame. Getting a sponsorship from a game server provider is probably one of the best things that can happen for you and your clan, especially when the clan budget is a bit on the low side. Almost any clan out there would want to be sponsored somehow, however only a select few ever get it. So how is it that this clans get the sponsorship and some don't?

			<description>
OpenArena (http://openarena.ws/) is a free open source FPS game that uses the the ioquake3 game engine which in turn was based on the id Tech 3 engine responsible for the popular game Quake III Arena. Development on OpenArena first started the day after the id Tech 3 source GPL code release. On October 31, 2008 the developers rolled out version 0.8.1 which features a re-organized single-player campaign, three new maps, and a couple of bug fixes. Is OpenArena still worth playing?

			<title>HLSW</title>
			<link>http://joinpgn.com/2009011361/contents/articles/hlsw/</link>
			<description>

HLSW (Half-Life Server Watch) is probably one of the best tools a game server admin can have. It is a remote administration tool that connects to a game server and lets a game server admin monitor the game server without even being inside the server. Talk about sneaking in your server to catch cheaters and on occasions abusive game admins. HLSW has many other features such as live-reporting for game matches to IRC (Internet Relay Chat).

			<title>CS 1.6 Game Servers Are In Debug Mode</title>
			<link>http://joinpgn.com/20081225146/news/pgn-latest-news/cs-16-game-servers-are-in-debug-mode/</link>
			<description>

I've put all the CS 1.6 game servers in debug mode today and it'll probably last until most of the problems are fixed. This is because I can't monitor the game servers 24/7 and since only a few players care to report what actually happens in a server, I will never know which maps have bad spawn points or if the server crashes if it changes to that map, et al.

			<link>http://joinpgn.com/20081224145/news/pgn-latest-news/merry-christmas-and-a-happy-new-year-from-pgn/</link>
			<description>

Just wishing everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year! God bless you all and always be safe this holiday season. 2008 has been a wonderful year for PGN as a whole especially when you take into account the amount of players that we have lost after the protocol change on HL1 based game servers. Don't worry though, if you look at the top Counter-Strike 1.6 communities out there, we're still #1! Congratulations PGN!

			<title>Classic - CA Gets The Camp Meter</title>
			<link>http://joinpgn.com/20081223144/news/pgn-latest-news/classic-ca-gets-the-camp-meter/</link>
			<description>

I've put an anti-camping plug-in in the California server. Hopefully this will speed up each round as players need to continue moving every 30-45 seconds otherwise they will lose 10 points of HP every 1-2 seconds and their screen will fade to black. This will also slay AFKs each round if they don't move at all. Maps like de_dust will be a bit faster now hopefully!

			<title>Ongoing Gun Game - NY Maps Conversion</title>
			<link>http://joinpgn.com/20081221143/news/pgn-latest-news/ongoing-gun-game-ny-maps-conversion/</link>
			<description>

Most of the maps being used in Gun Game - NY aren't suited for 32 slot CS 1.6 game servers and I have to edit them and then add more spawn points so that 16 players will be able to play on each side. If you see a map in Gun Game - NY that does not have enough player slots, please let me know in the forum. Thank you.

All CS 1.6 game servers are down. I'm working on all of them so every PGN admin can have in-game admin levels. ETA will probably be a tonight or if I ran into some problems 2-3 days. If you have any comments and/or suggestions please post them in our forum. Thank you.

			<title>Gun Game - NY MySQL Connection Fixed</title>
			<link>http://joinpgn.com/20081218141/news/pgn-latest-news/gun-game-ny-mysql-connection-fixed/</link>
			<description>

Gun Game - NY is now able to connect to the main PGN database where all the admin levels, bans, et al are stored. It wasn't able to connect properly for the last couple of days due to the patch that allowed everyone back in. The reason why it wasn't connecting properly was due to a corrupted file and all I did was copy that same file from a working game server and then overwrite the old one.

			<description>

I will be doing some maintenance on the DNS server being used by our website. You guys will probably be able to login to our website later since we have to wait until the new DNS entries propagate. It should not take that long but there would still be some downtime. This way instead of seeing something like ns1.domainregistrar.com and ns2.domainregistrar.com, our name servers will now be ns1.joinpgn.com and ns2.joinpgn.com respectively.

The dedicated server hosting the PGN IRC Bots will be undergoing maintenance today December 14, 2008. I will be migrating to a new operating system. ETA is unknown as I don't know what time I'll get done with it. This shouldn't affect PGN that much as this dedicated server is mostly used for the PGN IRC Bots and other shell-related stuff.

			<link>http://joinpgn.com/20081213137/news/pgn-latest-news/unexpected-cs-16-servers-downtime/</link>
			<description>

The ACS on all CS 1.6 game servers have been going crazy ever since we allowed everyone to be able to join our servers again. Because of this, legitimate players were being banned and blacklisted at the same time therefore not allowing them to come back anymore. I've since then disabled our ACS temporarily, it will be back as soon as I can find a patch or an update that stops it from going crazy.

			<description>

I've patched all of our CS 1.6 servers to accept all kinds of Protocol 48 clients. Please upgrade all your CS 1.6 installations to Protocol 48 to make everything work. Again, our servers only accept Protocol 48 clients (Not protocol 47). If you have CS 1.6 that still uses Protocol 47, please update it to Protocol 48. Otherwise you will never be able to play in our servers.

The hostname is l4d.ca.joinpgn.com and the port is 27015, so please add it to your favorites! The server can do both CO-OP and VERSUS mode, the mode change is dependent on the map so if it's a CO-OP map then it will choose the CO-OP mode and vice versa.

			<link>http://joinpgn.com/20081115131/news/pgn-latest-news/cs-16-server-update-hl1-bug-fixes/</link>
			<description>

Steam released an update today affecting all HL1 servers. The update patches the HL1 servers against some exploits - this should eliminate the random crashes that you guys are experiencing from time to time. As with other Steam updates, it will have an effect on our maps that do not have 32 slots by default (i.e. cs_assault). Please post in our forum if you encounter such maps.

			<title>Psychostats Is Back (Part 1)</title>
			<link>http://joinpgn.com/20081104130/news/pgn-latest-news/psychostats-is-back-part-1/</link>
			<description>

The last time Psychostats was implemented, a lot of regular players complained about the way the new Psychostats 3.1 calculates their rank. Because you need to kill higher ranking players to be able to move up a rank. Since PS (Psychostats) is implemented in all the servers it was difficult to hunt down the top players of each server which is why ranks never really changed at all. This time around though we'll be using the old method which is ELO (ELO Formula).

However, just to make sure that everything works out fine please update your PGN bookmarks., this should also reduces the chances of you getting an error.

			<description>

Ever since the update, the PGN redirect servers running under Windows seems to have a problem redirecting players to the actual servers, simply put they can see the servers in the master list but they can't connect to it. I myself can't even connect to them so I moved all the redirect servers to my dedicated box which is running GNU/Linux, so far so good as I can connect to the redirect servers and I get redirected to the actual servers.

I'm still waiting for the authors of these plug-ins to update them so they can properly work with Protocol 48. <link>http://joinpgn.com/20081022123/news/pgn-latest-news/unexpected-downtime-for-all-hl1-game-servers/</link>

As most of you know, Steam rolled out an update for the HL1 engine making it Protocol 48. The protocol change totally messed up the game servers, all of them are constantly crashing and most of the plug-ins under AMXX don't work anymore. For example, our death match server has just been turned into a Pistol Only death match server wherein you can't select your weapon of choice and there's no more random spawn points.

Several players have reported last night that the PGN Ventrilo server was down. I thought the provider was just doing some maintenance of some sort, it turns out that they have changed the IP address of the PGN Ventrilo server (Funny how I didn't get an e-mail about it). Fret not as I've added the IP to ventrilo.tx.joinpgn.com so everything should be back online once TTL (Time To Live) is over.
